On this morning’s (March 5) Happening in Homer segment, Mayor Hal McCabe called in from Albany to discuss legislation at the state level that may have an impact on the village.
Some the issues McCabe went into include the governor’s recent criminal justice reforms, particularly the clause on ‘discovery’ and the effects it’s having on daily operations at the Homer Police Department.
He also brought up the impending legalization of recreational marijuana and the efforts he’s involved in to ensure small farmers like those in Cortland County aren’t pushed out of the new business by large corporations.
McCabe was appointed last year to an executive position in Albany serving directly under the state senate.
As Director of the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources, the Homer mayor works to promote the interests of rural communities across the state.
He works out of both the Syracuse State Office Building and the Legislative Office Building in Albany in addition to his duties in Homer.
