A Homer man was arrested yesterday (November 3) for driving while intoxicated, after leading Homer Police on a high-speed chase through the village which began on South West Street.
Police say they attempted to pull over 28-year-old Derek Dumond, of Route 41, just past midnight yesterday, after officers observed him speeding.
Instead, he continued northbound onto North West Street and turned onto Route 41, accelerating to speeds of more than 25 mph over the limit.
Officers were finally able to stop Dumond near Brake Hill Road, where they found him to be intoxicated and in possession of a controlled substance.
In addition to these charges, he received citations for speeding in zone, unregistered motor vehicle, operating without insurance, no distinct license plate, refusal to a take a breath screening and unlawful fleeing the police in a motor vehicle.
Dumond was arraigned and released on his own recognizance, scheduled to appear in Homer Town Court tomorrow (November 5).
