Homer High School to Host Historic “Sundown Showdown” Outdoor Volleyball Event
The Homer Central School District is set to make Section III history tomorrow, Saturday, September 5, as Butts Field hosts the “Sundown Showdown,” the section’s first-ever outdoor high school volleyball event.
The day-long showcase marks only the third outdoor volleyball event in New York State high school athletic history. Featuring a series of inter-sectional matchups, four Section III programs will go head-to-head against teams from Section IV. The event will conclude under the stadium lights at 5:30 p.m. as the Homer Trojans take on Newark Valley.
“Sundown Showdown” Match Schedule:
- 10:00 a.m.: Cazenovia vs. Newfield
- 12:30 p.m.: Westhill vs. Windsor
- 3:00 p.m.: Skaneateles vs. Lansing
- 5:30 p.m.: Homer vs. Newark Valley
In addition to the athletic competition, the event will offer a festival atmosphere for student-athletes, families, and community members, including concessions, music, and official event t-shirt sales.
“More than anything, we hope this event creates an unforgettable experience for the student-athletes involved,” said Homer Volleyball Coach Jeremy Cook. “It is a unique opportunity to showcase high school volleyball in a completely different setting while bringing together communities from across Sections III and IV. We encourage everyone in the surrounding region to come out, support our athletes, and be part of a memory that will last a lifetime.”
