The Homer High School Environmental Club says it will be partnering with the Village of Homer on the ongoing Climate Smart Communities initiative.
Building upon their previous projects combating climate change and spreading awareness
for environmental issues at the high school, the club presented to the Village Board on Wednesday about their experience with projects such as water bottle filling stations, gardening programs, a solar charging station, and starting the annual CNY Youth Climate Summit.
In addition, they discussed the potential of working with the Village of Homer to fulfill
various requirements in the Climate Smart Communities program. The initiative seeks to
“engage and educate local governments in New York State, provide a robust framework
to guide their climate action efforts, and recognize their achievements as they make
progress,” according to the official Climate Smart Communities website .
To involve the greater community in the certification process, the Village is creating the Homer Climate Smart Community Task Force.
Any interested community members are welcome to join the task force which will help the Village accomplish its goal of becoming a certified community.
For more information or if you’re interested in joining the task force, contact Mayor Hal McCabe’s Office.
