Yesterday, Homer Firefighters installed a dry hydrant on East River Crossing Road.
A dry hydrant is used in rural areas to provide quicker and more reliable water access, especially during the winter months.
Equipment and labor were provided by the Town of Homer Highway Department — they helped dig a trench that was necessary before installation of the new hydrant could occur.
The project was partially funded by a fire service grant from the state DEC.
