Homer Fire Responds to Lighting Strike on House Sunday Morning
Sunday mornings thunderstorms produced heavy rainfall for the eastern portion of Cortland County with numerous flooding and road closures in the Truxton and Cincinnatus areas. For Homer, it was around 7:50 in the morning when they were called for a reported lightning strike on a house located on Dillon Road in the Town of Homer.
Cortland County 9-1-1 reported to responding firefighters of a smoke condition in the attic portion of the residence. On arrival, firefighters encountered a light smoke condition, but no fire. A window was smashed out as a result of the strike and damage to exterior insulation from photos provided by the Homer Fire Department.
Homer Fire as a precaution shut off power to the residence after checking all areas for fire. The property was then turned over to Homer Town Codes to ensure power could be safely turned back on.
Assisting Homer Fire in responding to the scene were Cortlandville, Truxton, and McGraw Fire Departments in the event of a fire.
