Monday night, around 10pm, the Homer Fire Department was dispatched to I81 Southbound for a reported brush fire from a motorist on the highway.
Firefighters responded and searched the highway and found a fire that was approximately 10 feet from the side of the road and about 50 to 60 feet in length. The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
The cause of the brush fire was found to be from a trailer that lost a tire and was on its rim for a short distance. This caused sparking and igniting the dry brush and grass along the highway.
New York State Police assisted the disabled motorist.
