On Saturday evening members from the Homer Fire Department welcomed back Mahlon Irish Sr. with an escort through the village.
Mahlon Irish Sr. is a US Army Veteran, who served during the Korean War, and a member of the Homer Fire Department. He spent the day in the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. with other veterans as part of the Honor Flight.
The Honor Flight is a way Veterans are honored for their service to the country by transporting them to the capital to visit the memorials that are dedicated for their service and sacrifice.
The escort through the village included additional members from the Cortlandville, City of Cortland, and Preble Fire Departments, and Homer Police Department. A social gathering welcoming Mahlon Sr. took place at the community building afterwards.
