The Homer Fire Station will celebrate their 150th year of service as well as host the 129th annual CNY Firefighters Association Convention next Friday and Saturday, July 21st and 22nd.
With this, the fire department plans to celebrate the milestone with a day of events on Saturday in addition to the convention. Below is the schedule for Saturday’s events
- 8:30 am Convention Welcome and Memorial Ceremony (CNY Living History Center)
- 9:15 am CNY Firefighters Association Awards (CNY Living History Center)
- 2023 Firefighter of the Year Award and Scholarship Awards presented
- 10:00 am CNY Firefighters Assoc. & Auxiliary Annual Meetings (CNY Living History Center)
- 11:00 am Display of 150 years of historic artifacts and pictures (Homer Fire Station)
- 12:00 pm Anniversary ceremony with distinguished guest speakers (Homer Village Green)
- Presentation of the Homer Fire Department history by Historian Martin Sweeney
- 1:30 pm Historical presentation of fire apparatus from the early 1800’s to present day.
- 2:30 pm CNY Firefighters Association hose racing competition (Main Street, Homer)
- 2:30 pm Activities for families and children including firefighter gear drills, bucket brigade competition, fire prevention smoke house tours, and rides in the Homer Fire Department ladder truck (Homer Fire Station and Homer Village Green)
- 5:00 pm Grand convention parade through the Village from Clinton Street to North Main and South Main Street – Ending at Pat Hill Community Building for Parade Awards and continued celebration
- 7:00 pm CNY Firefighters Association Past Presidents Dinner and Installation of Officers
