During the Village of Homer’s Board of Trustees meeting that took place on Tuesday, February 14th, a public hearing was held before the meeting regarding the Homer Fire Department becoming a non-profit organization.

The change would allow the Homer Fire Department to accept donations directly from citizens, which in return would be fully tax deductible for the citizen. The fire department would also be able to apply for grants on their own instead of needing to go through the Village of Homer.

No one spoke at the public hearing regarding the fire department. The village voted to approve, but will wait to approve the by-laws for a later date.
