Homer Central School District Announces New Superintendent

The Homer Central School District is hiring from within for its next superintendent. The district recently hosted a meet the candidate session with the three finalists.

One of those finalists is the current Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Jeffrey Evener. The district announced late last week that he has been selected as its next Superintendent of Schools pending successful contract negotiations. He would start on July 1.

Evener will be replacing current Superintendent Thomas Turck, who is retiring at the end of this school year after a 30 year career in education, seven years as Superintendent.

Born and raised in Summerhill, Evener has spent 23-years working in public education, serving in the Auburn Endlarged City School District, Groton and Lansing School Districts prior to Homer. In addition to being an Assistant Superintendent, he is also an adjunct professor at Le Moyne College, teaching labor relations to aspiring school administrators.

The decision to select Jeffrey Evener as Homer School’s next Superintendent of Schools comes after a 4 month search that began in November of last year which included a community survey, interviews, and meetings among various district stakeholder groups.
