The Village of Homer Board of Trustees met last night at the Homer Town Hall and voted to approve the purchase a new liner for the ice rink on the Village Green. Last year’s liner was damaged beyond use due to vandalism that had taken place.
Alongside the new liner, the village will also have the ice rink run parallel to Main Street and will be leveled off by the Village DPW. Leveling the rink will require the DPW to physically flatten the ground area where the rink will be. The Village says they have spoke with the First Religious Society and have gotten the ok for the work needed.
With a level rink, the rink itself will be easier to maintain without the issue of water settling on one side of the rink. Security cameras will also be set up around the ice rink to prevent further vandalism this year.
