It was just before 1 pm this afternoon that the Homer Fire Department was dispatched to the Homer Jr. High School on Clinton St. for a report of a smoke condition.

Homer fire arrived in minutes to find smoke in hallway and alarms going off.

The City of Cortland Fire Department responded for mutual aid to assist.

McGraw and Cortlandville Fire Departments had members in the area who also responded.

After an investigation it was determined that a fan in a vestibule had begun smoking. Firefighters cleared the building and isolated the fan to shut it down.

We spoke with Homer Fire Deputy Chief Jay Riley on scene who told us due to the smoke and the size of the building they called for additional manpower from the City of Cortland.

The city of Cortland responded with an engine and a ladder truck.

Homer responded with both of their engines and it’s ladder truck.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters cleared the scene around 1:20 pm.
