In the afternoon on Friday June, 3rd around 1pm 26 year old Devon R. Lane entered into a residence on West Main Street while residents living there were still inside.
Lane stole food items and went through cabinets in the residence. He took a bag out of the freezer which contained a dead pet that was being preserved for a burial.
Devon Lane then poured an ignitable fluid on the bag and lit it on fire on the front porch of the residence.
Police located Lane a short distance away and arrested him without incident. He was arraigned in City Court and remanded to Cortland County Jail with no bail and was charged with Burglary in the 2nd degree (felony), Criminal mischief, Arson 5th, reckless endangerment, and petit larceny, all of which are misdemeanors.
