On October 12th, around 3:15pm Cortland City Police officers responded to a robbery and assault call at 179 Homer Ave. in the City of Cortland.
The landlord of the property reported to police that several people were inside an apartment that was supposed to be vacant and were trespassing.
When confronted by the landlord, one of the trespassers attacked the landlord and stole a gold necklace and the cell phone from the landlord. The landlord suffered physical injuries from the attack.
Through an investigation, it was determined that Robert C. Scott, who is listed as homeless, attacked the landlord and stole items from him. A warrant was issued for Scott and he was arrested by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department on October 19th.
He was arraigned and charged with Robbery in the 2nd, Assault in the 2nd, and Grand Larceny in the 3rd, all felonies. Scott was taken to the Cortland County Jail.
The City of Cortland Police notes the 2nd degree charge was based on information that the victim of this crime is greater than 65 years of age and the suspect is more than 10 years younger than the victim.
The other two trespassers, 28 year old Lisa M. Walker and 22 year old David West were also arrested by police and charged with Criminal Trespass in the 3rd, a misdemeanor. Both were issued appearance tickets and released.
