Homeless Man Assaults Woman; Becomes Unresponsive Then Tries to Flee ER

On Wednesday, October 5th the City of Cortland Police responded to a call in the area of 186 Homer Ave in the City of Cortland for a reported disturbance.




When officers arrived, they found a woman with injuries sustained after being assaulted by 31 year old Travis Hartwick, who is listed as homeless. The two persons involved had a relationship in the past and an order of protection was currently in place during the assault.

Travis Hartwick was arrested for violating the order of protection, but did not face charges of assault after the victim refused to pursue charges.

After his arrest officers were transporting Hartwick to the police department when he then became unresponsive. Officers then diverted to Guthrie for treatment.

While detained at Guthrie, Hartwick became responsive and then attempted to flee from the hospital where officers then had to stop him as he attempted to flee out the entrance to the ER.

Once treatment was done for Hartwick he was processed and charged with Criminal Contempt in the 1st, Aggravated Family Offense, both felonies, and Attempted Escape in the 2nd, a misdemeanor.

He was then sent to Cortland County Jail with no bail.
