Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on Route 11 in Virgil just after 9:30pm on Thursday, January 4th, for an order of protection violation complaint.
An investigation by officers found 37 year old Joseph P. Cunningham, who is listed as homeless, had violated a full stay away order of protection by contacting a victim via social media. The Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for Cunningham’s arrest the following day, January 5th.
Cunningham was located by officers days later on January 9th just before 6pm at a business within the City of Cortland. He was taken into custody for the charge of Criminal Contempt in the 2nd, a Misdemeanor. Cunningham was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. He is due in Virgil Town Court later this month.
