Ithaca police investigators were originally notified of someone trying to cash a forged check.

Upon looking further, they discovered 64-year-old Mary Ann Church had been stealing from an elderly disabled veteran she was hired to care for.

Authorities say Church commit these crimes over several years using various forms of fraudulence.

She was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and released on her own recognizance in accordance with New York State Law.

Others are being asked to come forward who may have loved ones under her care.

“The Ithaca Police Department takes all forms of abuse seriously, including elder abuse,” said IPD Lt. Lieutenant Ted Schwartz. “We would like to remind friends and family of those who are vulnerable to be vigilant for suspicious activity and or abuse being committed.”
