Cortland County Department of Social Services (DSS) has announced the 2023-2024 Homer Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) will open on Wednesday November 1st.
Residents who are income eligible within the county can apply in getting assistance paying their home heating bills this winter on the 1st. DSS says residents do not have to go to the DSS office to file an application.
The fastest and easiest way to apply for HEAP may be found at MyBenefits.NY.Gov or by calling 607-428-5400 and have an application mailed to your address.
HEAP is a federally funded energy assistance program which can help residents with home heating bills, furnace repairs, and in some cases, offer furnace maintenance.
Eligibility in receiving HEAP is based on income and the housing situation. Individuals must pay directly for heating costs or pay rent that includes heating costs.
