A Cortland man was arrested after being caught in-the-act yesterday committing a home burglary on Union Street.
City police say the homeowner arrived to his residence to find 24-year-old Alexander Hale, of Winter Street, in the process of robbing him. Investigation determined the victim did know his perpetrator beforehand.
Hale fled on-foot after stealing antique coins, military pins, a set of brass dice and knives from the home.
Officers soon located him crossing through an open grassy area in Beaudry Park.
According to Lt. Michael Strangeway, Hale began doing cartwheels as police approached him for what he later said was to appear less guilty.
After being taken into custody, Hale was charged with 2nd degree burglary and petit larceny.
He was last known to be at CPD awaiting arraignment.
