Gov. Kathy Hochul’s signed legislation requiring residential health care facilities to swiftly update residents as well as their family members and guardians when an infection is detected within the facility.
The measure also requires nursing homes to have a plan in place to accommodate exposed or infected residents in order to stop the spread of a potential infection. The legislation will expand the existing pandemic emergency plan by improving communication between nursing homes, residents and their loved ones during a spike of infection, as well as ensuring these facilities have a plan in place should an infectious disease outbreak occur.
“New Yorkers living in nursing homes deserve the highest quality of care, and their families deserve to know their loved ones are safe”, said Gov. Hochul.
