High Visibility Campaign Announced by Sheriff For Upcoming 4/20 Day

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office has announced another high visibility campaign for the upcoming 4/20 drug day. A day considered to be the unofficial holiday for marijuana. The campaign is part of multiple state-wide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. It will take place beginning on Friday, April 19th and continue through Sunday, April 21st.

The Sheriff’s Office says even though marijuana is legal it does not mean it is okay to drive while high. The campaign will include increased patrols in both marked and unmarked vehicles, roadside checkpoints and more. Police agencies throughout the county and the state will be taking part in the campaign.

For those who plan to take part in the 4/20 day, the best thing you can do for yourself and other motorists on the road is to have a plan to get home safely. A free app is available to download titled “Have a Plan” which can help you find a safe ride home. You can learn more about the app, HERE.
