The New York State Public High School Association made a final decision last night on fall sports, pushing those deemed “high-risk” like football, volleyball and cheerleading to the spring.
That season is now referred to as “Fall 2,” set to begin on March 1, 2021 and delay the start of spring sports until April 19.
Soccer, field hockey, cross country and other “low-to-moderate risk” sports can still begin practicing on September 21.
Competitions can then begin after the first ten practices for these sports.
Earlier this week, NYSPHSAA officials announced there will be no state or regional tournaments this fall.
Sectionals are still a possibility.
