High-risk sports left up to local health departments
Local News January 25, 2021New York schools can begin competing in high-risk sports next Monday (February 1), pending approval by local health officials.
That follows guidance by the State Department of Health and NYSPHSAA.
Each section and school still has the final decision on returning to competition.
Sections will then determine the exact length of their seasons and which, if any, will overlap.
At this point, two fans per athlete are still allowed to attend games. Teams may waive the standing 7-day practice rule.
Spring NYSPHSAA championships are still on, but winter and fall playoffs remain canceled.
