Stolen U-Haul Leads Police On Multi-County Chase Ending Just South Of Cortland

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office had to send out its Air-1 helicopter last night (August 25) to help State Police in pursuit of a stolen U-Haul box truck, which was eventually pulled over just south of Cortland.

Troopers assigned to the New York State Fair were on Hiawatha Boulevard (I-690E) when they attempted to stop the truck. When they activated their emergency lights, the driver refused to comply and continued onto I-81 southbound through Onondaga County and into Cortland County.

Police soon discovered that the U-Haul had been stolen.

Air1 arrived to the scene around 10 p.m., maintaining visibility from above and using a night-sun light to illuminate the truck and provide ground units with traffic updates

The Cortland County Sheriff ‘s Office eventually deployed a tire deflation device near Exit 11, which successfully disabled the truck and allowed police to apprehend the driver without further incident.

He’s now been identified as 22-year-old Tyshawn Allen, of Syracuse. who was later transported to the Onondaga County Justice Center for centralized arraignment.
