Utility crews got their first big test of 2019 yesterday (January 1), as powerful wind storms knocked out power for tens of thousands of customers across New York State.
National Grid reported more than 30,000 total customers without power across the state and NYSEG/RG&E another 55,000.
Wind gusts in Central New York and nearby regions reached more than 60 mph in some places.
Crews have been working non-stop since yesterday morning to replace utility lines and get everything back up and going.
They have been able to restore power to many of the affected areas.
Be sure to check with your utilities company about current outage information.
