Heat Advisory Issued For All of Upstate – Heat Index Values May Exceed 101 Degrees

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton has issued a Heat Advisory for all of Upstate New York from Sunday at noon through Wednesday, June 25th. The Hudson Valley, NYC Metro, and Long Island have been issued an Extreme Heat Warning through Wednesday. The NWS says heat index values during the heat wave could reach/exceed 101 degrees.

The NWS also warns hot temperatures and high humidity may cause illnesses. People are being reminded to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, out of sunlight, and to check-in on relatives and neighbors.

The National Weather Service and Center for Disease Control (CDC) offer a mapping system, which is color coded to show heat impacts. Current predictions for Monday and Tuesday show the Cortland area listed as Category 4, Magenta, which is considered an Extreme-Risk for heat-related impacts, especially in health-care systems, heat-sensitive industries and infrastructure.
