A two-vehicle accident in Truxton yesterday (July 25) injured three people, causing one to be airlifted to Upstate from the lawn of Tully High School.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened just after 3 p.m. on Tully-Truxton Road at the intersection of Kettlebail Road, not far from Labrador Mountain.

Officers say 25-year-old Caitlin Mcquilkenscholze, of Fairport, NY, was travelling south when her 2005 Lexus experienced a steering malfunction going through a curve, colliding head-on with a 2020 Mercedez Benz being driven by 82 year-old Walter Farnholtz of Tully.

Mcquilkenscholze was immediately transported via ambulance to Tully High School, where she was then airlifted to Upstate Medical Center for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Mr. Farnholtz and a female passenger in his vehicle were also transported to Upstate by ambulance for minor injuries.

The roadway was closed about an hour and a half while crews investigated and cleaned up.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were rescue crews from Truxton and Preble Fire Departments, along with Mercy Flight, Smith Ambulance, Stupke’s Towing, and CNY Towing and Rescue.

The crash is still under investigation at this time.
