Halloween is Tomorrow – Homer Police Offering Safety Tips – Candy Inspection at Homer Fire Department from 5pm to 8:30pm
Halloween is tomorrow and trick or treaters will be out and about throughout the area. With this, the Homer Police Department is offering Halloween safety tips to make sure everyone has a safe and fun Halloween. Motorists are asked to slow down and use extra caution when driving as kids will be out and crossing streets when going from house to house.
Trick or treaters are reminded to use sidewalks and cross the street only at crosswalks or corners; always look both ways before crossing the street. Kids should also wear something reflective or have a flashlight or glow stick with them so they can be seen by drivers. Costumes with masks or have makeup as masks could obstruct kids’ view which may lead to a dangerous situation when crossing the street.
Other tips include:
- Trick or treat in groups instead of alone and be with an adults
- Stop only at familiar homes and where lights are on
- Never go into a home or car to collect treats
- Do not stop at houses that are dark or do not have porch lights on
- Do not eat any treats until you get home or before parents or adults can check them
- Only eat unopened candies and treats in their original wrappers
Between 5 and 8:30pm, officers with Homer Police, TLC Ambulance, and members of the Homer Fire Department will be at the Homer Fire Station to help with candy inspection.
