Guthrie’s Harvest of Gold Event is Coming Up

John Harrison: [00:00:00] Good morning everyone. Welcome back to another edition of Your Care with Guthrie. It’s John Harrison in the CUA Health System sponsored studios. And joining me is Sheila Ossit. Sheila, thanks so much for joining.

Sheila Ossit: Thanks for having me. I’m very excited to be with you.

John Harrison: I’m very excited for you to be in here.

I know there’s a real big event coming up, but, first, you know, I wanna talk a little bit about you and the, Cortland Memorial Foundation is, you are the director of the Cortland Memorial Foundation. If you could just, you know, tell us a little bit about,

Sheila Ossit: what you guys do. Yeah, so. The Cortland Memorial Foundation has been around, I believe, since 1978.

Wow. We are basically the fundraising arm, quote unquote, for Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. Basically we help raise funds. We have a lot of endowed funds. We have special, buckets of funds that we can help. With, many things for the hospital. We provide funding for some equipment, state-of-the-art equipment that they might need.

Technology. We help with patient care. Trying to think, but there’s, there’s a lot of things that we do, but it’s all, you know, to support the hospital. Yeah. So many

John Harrison: things, you know, I mean, honestly, probably even if I gave you the next hour, I don’t even know. [00:01:00] You can list, you know, all the, the, the amazing things that, you guys do with the, with the Cortland Memorial Foundation.

Yeah. Around, since. 78 and, and still going really strong and, and doing some amazing stuff. So, Sheila is the, you know, the director and, we’ve got the harvest of gold, coming up, pretty soon. Actually. That’s, this, this Friday, September 26th. It’s the Harvest of Gold Event up at Greek Peak.

You. Tell us a little bit about that. ’cause that’s a, a really big event for the year.

Sheila Ossit: Yeah. So the harvest of gold is what we kind of consider our community event. Mm-hmm. We do other fundraising events, but this is the one that I, I just love this one because it brings everyone in the community and this community, you know, I live here too.

It’s, it’s probably one of the best places to live. Yeah. Everyone’s so generous and everyone comes together to help. You know, a cause and it just is kind of a feel good thing. So the harvest of gold, is our community event. It’s a fundraiser for Guthrie Cortland Medical Center through the foundation.

Okay. And, we have food and drinks and there’s, live music with Rick Stormer.

John Harrison: Oh wow. Yeah.

Sheila Ossit: And, [00:02:00] we, every year when we have the harvest of gold, we honor someone from the community. It can be a person or a business, and a committee gets together and they nominate who they think, has been a long time supporter of the foundation.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be the person that gives the most money. Mm-hmm. But it is someone who’s been loyal and committed in helping us, keep the rural healthcare system here and, and keep it thriving. So, this year. Unanimously, Steve and Debbie Gebel were chosen to be, honored, and I don’t know if you know them, but they’re amazing people.

They’ve done a lot in the community. They’re just, they’re just darn good people. So, they’ve done a lot for the foundation. Debbie was on the board of trustees. For many years, I believe, and, and had a lot of, did a lot of help with a lot of the projects. So we’re excited to honor them at the harvest of gold.

John Harrison: Yeah. Harvesting some, some, some darn good people. Yeah. At the, at the harvest of gold and yeah. It’s gonna be, it’s such a fun event. I mean, you know, I’m, I’m. Reading up on, on some of the things that are gonna be going on this weekend, I’m definitely gonna have to, pick up some [00:03:00] tickets for myself to be there.

’cause this can, you know, live music, like, like you said, great food, cash bar, and of course Greek Peak Mountain Resort. Oh, Greek Peak. It’s beautiful. Love it.

Sheila Ossit: How, how can we not love it? So yeah, they’re, we’re having it at the, in the Acropolis Ballroom this year. Oh, amazing. And they’ve been wonderful to work with.

They’ve been very supportive of our efforts here for the, the event. You know, we’ve, we’ve got a silent auction and so a lot of items come in and I’m telling them, I need more tables, I need more this, I need more that because, you know, a lot of really great auction items are coming in for the silent auction that we do during the harvest of gold.

Sometimes we get a little, people get a little competitive with the bidding wars, usually if there’s a nice case of wine or something, you know? Yep. People are, are bidding away. But, yeah, so it’s, that’s all happening and they’ve, they’ve been great to work with and we’re, we’re excited to have it there.

John Harrison: Yeah. So that’s gonna be, super fun. Folks, again, that’s, that’s this Friday, September 26th from six to 9:00 PM of, Greek Peak. Well, you know, Sheila, thanks so much for, for coming in and, and talking with me today. Sheila Ossit: just, I just think that Guthrie Cortland has come into our community and they have invested in our community and they have, upgraded, if you will, our healthcare system and, you know, the parking lot, the new building over Yeah.

The, the Guthrie Cortland, Renzi Health Campus and Yeah. And the cancer center and all of those things are so important, you know, to, to our community and, and keeping us healthy. And I just, I love my job. I love what I’m able to do and I. I just hope everybody comes to the harvest of gold to support our efforts.

It’s, it’s, it’s gonna be a great time. It always is. It always is.

John Harrison: Yeah. It’ll be, it’ll be a, a magical evening, a, a perfect, you know, perfect way to spend, a fall Friday too. I mean, up there on the mountain.
