Guthrie Warns of Phone Call Scam Circulating

Guthrie is warning residents in both Cortland and Tompkins of an ongoing scam phone call from individuals who claim they are representing Guthrie.

Residents are being told they have won something, the specifics in what they win are not given. The scammer then asks for their credit card information in order to process their “winnings.”

Guthrie says they are not hosting any contests or would anyone from the hospital ask for credit card information to process the winnings.

“There are circumstances in which Guthrie may contact a patient, including requesting that they pre-register in advance of a procedure or test which the patient has already scheduled or attempting to collect payment on an outstanding account. Legitimate phone calls from Guthrie will be made by Guthrie Financial Counselors or Patient Representatives.” Guthrie said in a statement.

Guthrie says if you receive a call like this you need to hang up and call your local law enforcement.
