Friday the Cortland Memorial Foundation held The Nightingale Concert, a benefit for Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.
The event, held on Florence Nightingale’s birthday at the Center for the Arts of Homer, was also meant to celebrate the Medical Center’s nurses. In fact, one nurse in particular was recognized and honored as the recipient of the Nightingale Award. In an interview with X101 News, Kansas Underwood, the Vice President of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer spoke on this year’s recipient.
“Our winner this year is Sarah Brown. She is a registered nurse. She works currently in endo, which is part of our surgical services suite.” Underwood said.
Underwood continued to speak on Sarah’s kindness and compassion for all of her patients, but not just in the hospital, but out in the community. Underwood then also mentioned how Sarah self studied for her hospice and palliative care nurse certification as Sarah felt it was something that was needed to give back to the community.
The gathering also included an evening of live jazz with Steve Daniels, hors d’oeuvres from Hairy Tony’s, a cash bar and much more.
