Guthrie Cortland Medical Center will honor those who served in the military — and now serve patients in the medical field — during a morning ceremony today for staff and media only.

Several members of the leadership team are Veterans, including the Medical Director for Guthrie’s Northern Region and the Chief Medical Officer for GCMC.

President/CEO Dr. Edward Sabanegh served over 20 years and was Chief Operating Officer at the largest Air Force hospital in the world.

Speakers will be present today discussing their experiences in the armed forces and how they translated to successful careers in medicine and leadership during a pandemic.

Veterans on Guthrie’s staff will be honored with a special gift, recognizing their service in the military and the Guthrie family.

Employees with family members who have served will also be invited to plant flags in their honor.

Additionally, hospital leaders will discuss the Guthrie Veteran Patient Assistance Fund.
