Guthrie has announced they’ll be joining the American Cancer Society in this year’s annual Great American Smokeout which takes place tomorrow.
The Smokeout challenges smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit cigarettes or vaping, or to plan in advance and quit the habit on that day. The Cancer Society says that smoking is still the largest preventable cause of death and illness in the world, killing an estimated 480,000 people per year. They add that approximately 34 million Americans still smoke cigarettes.
Community Health Assessment surveys conducted on Guthrie’s 12-county footprint also show the need for continued efforts to combat the usage of tobacco. As a result, Guthrie will join forces with the Cancer Society to discuss the dangers of smoking and what you can do to quit.
