Guthrie Cortland Medical Center Hosts MASH Camp – Students Work to Navigate Aftermath of a Mock Crash
Guthrie Cortland Medical Center recently held their annual Medical Academy of Science and Health, better known as MASH Camp earlier this week. The camp is a 2-day event where high school students throughout the region take part.
During the camp, Guthrie exposes students to various specialities within the healthcare industry. Some of the specialities can include interactive demonstrations from caregivers within the ER Department, maternity, rehabilitation, imaging, pharmacy, operating and more.
This year, students learned to navigate the aftermath of a mock “horrible crash” that was caused due to texting and driving. All victims in the mock accident were actors, Guthrie says.
During the interactive mock situation, students learned how to provide proper response, trauma care, and more. Mercy Flight also took part in the mock crash with a helicopter landing in the land next to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. Members from TLC Ambulance, along with staff at Guthrie assisted students in teaching and how to render aid.
