Guthrie Cortland Medical Center recently finished a round of its Food Prescription Program, offered to local families with diet-related diseases such as obesity and diabetes.

Participants were enrolled into the program through a prescription from their doctor ensuring they were a good candidate.

They were then led through a free, five-class series on healthy shopping, cooking and eating.

As part of a capstone to the program, participants toured their local Price Chopper supermarket to test the skills they had learned during the course, identify healthy foods and products, and learn how to read nutrition labels to determine healthy choices.

Guthrie Cortland got a $2,500 grant last year to help fund that program.
