Guthrie is again alerting residents of a scam phone call that displays Guthrie on the caller ID. Guthrie says technology has allowed the scammers to alter information on the recipient’s caller ID so it displays Guthrie, given the illusion it is a legitimate call from Guthrie.
If answered, the caller says they are a staff member from a Guthrie location which matches the ID. They continue on asking for specific Medicare information to “update” that individual’s information. Guthrie says the scam isn’t a new one, but has once again been active in recent days.
Guthrie does say there are times when they may contact a patient, including requesting the patient pre-register in advance for a procedure or test that a patient has already scheduled or attempting to collect payment on an outstanding account. Residents who do receive these calls may hang up and call back to verify that the call actually came from Guthrie.
