Corey Hobart died Sunday at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. At mid-afternoon on Monday, Cortland Police Chief F. Michael Catalano released this statement:
“On Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 2:43PM Corey J. Hobart died at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY. An autopsy performed by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. The gunshot wound was self inflicted.”
Hobart, 28, was the man from Conklin who help police at bay for nearly 24 hours before being taken into the custody of police on a parole violation.
Early Friday, Hobart was chased from Johnson City to the Hampton Inn in Cortland.
A companion, Jeri Anne Healy, was registered for a room at the Hampton. According to police, Hobart allowed Healy to leave the room at approximately 11 am Friday.
He was in the room until police broke in at about 3 am to find he had apparently shot himself.
Cortland Police charged the companion, Jeri Ann Healy with heroin possession. She was ticketed and released until Cortland City Court on June 15.
