A groundbreaking ceremony will take place tomorrow, May 5th, beginning at 1pm at the Cortland County Courthouse in the front of the main entryway as the county looks to celebrate the beginning of the restoration of the nearly 100 year old building.

Cortland County Legislative Chair, Kevin Fitch and Grounds Committee Chair, Paul Heider, have both emphasized the importance of restoring the courthouse to its former glory. Assemblymember Anna Kelles also assisted in getting funds from a State and Municipal Grant.

“If Cortland is the “Crown City,” then the Courthouse is the center jewel. And I am very pleased that I was able to support this project that will bring the historic Courthouse back to being a shining jewel. Not only will the restored dome and cupola be visually beautiful in the city center, but the repaired entrance will ensure the Courthouse is also safe and functional for all those who work and visit there.” Assemblymember Kelles said in a press release.

Speakers for the ceremony will include: Cortland County Legislative Chair, Kevin Fitch, Assemblymember Anna Kelles, and Supreme Court Justice, Mark G. Masler. The Courthouse will celebrate its centennial next year, 2024.
