Before last week’s Tompkins County Public Safety Committee meeting, Groton native Paige Graham was recognized by the Sheriff’s Office for actions she took earlier this year that ultimately saved her own father’s life.
The date was January 3, 2019.
Graham was just 19-years-old and a student at Tompkins Cortland Community College when her own father, Bruce Graham, suddenly went into cardiac arrest.
Rather than panic, Graham immediately began performing CPR while on the phone with 9-1-1.
In doing so, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office says she allowed emergency responders enough time to arrive and perform more life-saving measures.
Graham was presented the first-ever Tompkins County Champion Award, created to honor an individual who displays exceptional courage, presence of mind, and swiftness in action in an emergency situation.
