Two Groton residents were arrested just before midnight Tuesday (January 28), after they were caught in the act burglarizing a business in the town of Ithaca.
Authorities say the duo may be responsible for numerous other burglaries in the area, as well.
Tuesday’s incident began when Officers with the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department were called to the scene on reports that there were individuals trespassing inside the business after hours.
What they found when they arrived was a burglary in progress, led by 36-year-old Daniel Samson and 36-year-old Tressa Mikula, who first tried escaping the building but were soon taken into custody without further incident.
The vehicle they were using had been reported stolen out of Cayuga County.
Investigators said the pair may be responsible for numerous other burglaries in Tompkins and surrounding counties, as well.
Mikula and Samson were both charged with Class D felonies for 3rd-degree Burglary and Class E felonies for 4th-degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.
Samson was hit with additional misdemeanors for Possession of Burglar Tools and 3rd-degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle,
He was remanded to jail without bail and Mikula was released on her own recognizance.
Officials say more charges are expected.
