Fans who were shut out of catching the final three Grateful Dead reunion shows this summer at Chicago’s Soldier Field are in luck! Fathom Events has announced that all three nights — July 3rd, 4th, and 5th — will be presented live in movie theaters around the nation as a five-hour screening event for each show.
Fathom posted in its official press release: “These epic events, broadcast live from Soldier Field in Chicago, will take place nearly 20 years to the day of the last Grateful Dead concert with Jerry Garcia. The four original members — Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir — will be joined by renowned musicians Trey Anastasio (Phish and the Trey Anastasio Band), Jeff Chimenti (RatDog, the Dead, and Furthur), and multiple Grammy-winner Bruce Hornsby. Bob Weir told us that he still feels as passionate about performing the Grateful Dead’s material today as he did when he was on the road with Jerry Garcia: “I love these tunes. I mean, I love ’em as deeply as I love anything. There was a while that I couldn’t even play ’em ’cause I couldn’t, y’know, I couldn’t — emotionally, I wasn’t ready for it. And then I got lonesome enough for ’em, and then, y’know, every time we’d bring out a new one of those old chestnuts, y’know, I’d get plenty misty — and I still do.”
