When the Tops Supermarket closed last Sunday, the plan was it would be a week before the new Grand Union Supermarket would open.
The store opened on Friday (February 4), a few days early. Tops-branded merchandise was removed, and Grand Union brands replaced those products on the shelves.
C&S, the company that purchased the Cortland Tops and stores in 11 other towns, is well-established in the grocery business. It provides products to, or operates, 7,700 stores.
Grand Union hopes to enlist shoppers in its “Red Dot” savings program, similar to the Bonus Card used by Tops.
