Governor Hochul’s mask mandate blocked by New York State Supreme Court Judge

The Nassau County State Supreme Court has blocked Governor Kathy Hochul’s statewide mask mandate. The Supreme Court claims she doesn’t have the power to make you wear a mask since emergency power is no longer in effect.

Homer Central School District Tom Turck told us this morning that they “will follow the State Education Department (SED) guidance.”

“It is SED’s understanding that the Department of Health will appeal the Nassau County Supreme Court decision, which will result in an automatic stay that will unambiguously restore the mask rule until such time as an appellate court issues a further ruling.  Therefore, schools must continue to follow the mask rule.”

Robert Edwards, the Superintendent of Cortland Enlarged City School District said similar things, “We, Cortland Enlarged City School District, follow guidance from the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Education Department.”

“We strongly disagree with this ruling, and we are pursuing every option to reverse this immediately,” said Governor Hochul.
