Governor Hochul Announces Results of Independence Day Traffic Safety Drive
New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the results of the July 4th holiday traffic safety enforcement drive on Monday.
The campaign, funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, ran from July 3rd to July 7th. State and local law enforcement issued nearly 38,000 tickets over the four-day span. A total of 1,227 people were caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“Getting reckless drivers off the road is a priority for Troopers each and every day, but even more so during holiday periods when celebrations may include alcohol,” said New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James. “Make safety your priority and plan ahead for a safe ride home.”
Other law enforcement agencies enforced nearly 25,000 tickets over the weekend. These tickets ranged from speeding, to impaired driving, to violations of the Move Over Law. In total almost 38,000 people were issued tickets in this four-day span.
