Governor Expands Child Care Services For 11 SUNY Community Colleges, Including TC3
Last week, Governor Hochul expanded child care services for 11 SUNY community colleges, including Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3), in the creation of additional spots for infants and toddlers. TC3 will receive $186,375 as part of the initiative, the college says.
“We are investing in the futures of our adult learners and student parents to ensure they can pursue and achieve their dreams,” Governor Hochul said. “Through the expansion of child care across SUNY’s community college campuses, the SUNY Reconnect program and dedicated support initiatives, we are reinforcing our commitment to meeting the needs of adult learners and offering them a path to upward mobility.”
According to TC3, the expansion of child care access will support adult learners who are currently enrolled in the SUNY Reconnect program. The program provides free college tuition, fees, books and supplies for those ages 25-55 who don’t already have a college degree and want to pursue an associate degree in a high-demand field.
The funds provided to TC3 will allow at least four and up to eight part-time infant and toddler spots to be dedicated specifically to adult students with families.
Other area schools, including SUNY Broome Community College, will create additional care hours during the evening. Onondaga Community College will partner with the YMCA to provide evening child care spots for adult learners enrolled through SUNY Reconnect.
