Cortland County residents who have either paints or stains in their home or business they need to get rid of are being reminded the Cortland County Recycling Center accepts both paints and stains on a daily basis up at the facility on Pendleton Street in the City of Cortland.

The Recycling Center does state though if you do plan on dropping off paint or stains, you must speak with someone once you arrive regarding the drop off. The Recycling Center says all items must be checked in.

Rules include the paint must be in a liquid form, in its original containers (up to 5 gallons), and with the original label. Acceptable forms are both interior and exterior latex and oil based paints, stains, varnishes, primers, sealers, and deck coatings.

If the paint has hardened or the paint can is empty, the Recycling Center says you may discard it in your regular trash.

Residents who may have additional questions about the recycling are encouraged to contact the Center at 607-753-5191.
