New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has asked the Federal Trade Commission to look into the rate of artificial intelligence-related scams targeting older adults.
According to recent reports, vulnerable populations such as older Americans are falling victim to scams using AI-powered technology like voice clones, chat bots, and “deep fake” videos. Scammers can also use AI-powered tech to create deceptive emails, phone calls and images.
Gillibrand is asking the Federal Trade Commission to answer questions about the issue. That includes what the Commission’s understanding is of recent developments in AI-related scams, and what they plan to do to protect vulnerable older Americans from the scams.
