National Nurses Week is typically celebrated annually from May 6 to May 12, but this year the American Nurses Association expanded it to a month-long celebration as part of the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife.”
Now more than ever, our hard-working nurses and health care staff are being put to the test with the ongoing threat of COVID-19, but the daily plight of a hospital nurse extends far beyond any one particular challenge.
WXHC was able to catch up with a local RN at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, Luke Atwater.
“Being a nurse is always a trying time, but it’s nice to be recognized during a time like this,” Atwater said. “We really have gotten an outpour of support from the community and that definitely keeps us going.”
The new National Nurses Month will have four different themes celebrated by week, with more information available on each of them here.
