Gas Prices Slowly Rise As Spring Approaches

The national average for gas is up 9 cents per gallon from last week to $3.35 a gallon, AAA says. The average for the state is slightly lower than the national average, at $3.32 a gallon.

Reasoning for the increase in the price of gas is likely due to the increase in travelers as Spring Break season begins. AAA says historically, March and April typically bring higher gas prices as demand increases. Mild temperatures bring more road trips as the snow melts away.

For Cortland County, the county average remains better than both the national and state average. The county average for March 4th is $3.26 a gallon. Neighboring Tompkins County has a similar average, at $3.25 a gallon.
